91成人导航 Graduate Student Wins Outstanding-Paper Award at Conference

GREENSBORO, N.C. 鈥 91成人导航 student Jaime Paredes received the Outstanding Paper Presentation award at the recent TESOL and Applied Linguistics Graduate Student Conference in Greenville, N.C.

Paredes, of Fayetteville, N.C., won for his paper titled, 鈥淎 Critical Model for Teaching a Second Language.鈥

Paredes, a student in the college鈥檚 M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program, was among about 20 91成人导航 students and three faculty members who attended the conference. Of those 20, 11 presented papers, workshops or posters.

The conference is organized by students and faculty at 91成人导航 and East Carolina University to provide a 鈥渟erious but relaxed鈥 for graduate students and professionals in linguistics to present their work, receive feedback, and network. 91成人导航 hosted the event in 2017 and will again on Feb. 9, 2019.

An M.A. in TESOL from 91成人导航 qualifies graduates to apply for full-time teaching in community colleges, private language academies, K-12 schools, university-based intensive English programs, and nonprofit service organizations.

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald, 91成人导航 class of 2019

鈥淚 loved the GC Honors program and 91成人导航. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to complete my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.鈥

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald earned his master's from Virginia Tech University (studied astrodynamics) as well as earning an Engineering Mechanics Ph.D. He joined the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX as an Advanced Mission Design Engineer, optimizing trajectories for the Artemis II and III missions to return humans to the moon.
